Welcome to the St. James Cross Revisited website. This is an art project initiated by Ted Noten. You can read about the project and participate if you like.

Through history Portugal brought treasures from around the world to Lisbon. Nowadays, a big deal of these treasures are part of the beautiful collection of the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga. People from all over the world come to Lisbon to admire these art treasures.

With this in mind, Ted Noten imagined a way of reversing this flow. He designed a brooch by literally separating the little red espada which originally is situated in the Insignia of St. James. During the summer of 2005, every seventh visitor to the museum receives a brooch. Then they are asked, as they go back home, to make a picture or a portrait with the brooch in their hometown. Finally, they are invited to place their photo in this site.

The result, to be seen in the photo gallery, pretends to be a very diverse register of this brooches' migration. If you want to upload your photo, please log in. Information over the old espada and the new one you can find in the history, and if you would like to participate but do not have a brooch, please visit the shop in the website.

Thanks for visiting.
